Guide to Preparing for Your Professional Headshot/Photo Session
1. Understand the Purpose
Before your session, think about what the headshot will be used for (e.g., corporate profile, LinkedIn, Microsoft Teams, website, acting portfolio, etc.) and let me know ahead of time. This helps us tailor your session. If you have any ideas or examples that you would like to emulate, either from my portfolio or from somewhere else – please let me know and we can work together to come up with a plan BEFORE we meet in person. Let’s pick a spot that will work best for your use case. Please try to schedule a time when you have plenty of free time so that we do not feel rushed. I will never rush you; rushed photoshoots show in the final product. Most importantly: plan to have fun! Let’s have a good time together, I want you to feel happy and relaxed.
2. Grooming and Hygiene
Hair:
- Get a haircut or trim a few days in advance—avoid same-day cuts to let it settle.
- Style your hair as you normally would in a professional setting.
Face:
- Men: Shave or groom facial hair the day of or night before.
- Women: Keep makeup natural and photo-ready. Consider hiring a makeup artist if possible.
- Everyone: Exfoliate and moisturize your skin the day before to reduce dry patches.
Teeth:
- Brush and floss before the session.
- Avoid foods or drinks that stain teeth (e.g., coffee, wine) just before the shoot.
